American women star in Russian meet

Tiffany Townsend and Queen Harrison led a 1-2 finish for the United States in the women’s 200 meters and 100 hurdles at the Znamensky Brothers Memorial on Sunday.

Townsend finished the 200 in 22.84 seconds to edge Charonda Williams by .05, while Harrison’s time of 12.88 in the hurdles was .09 faster than Kristi Castlin.

   In the men’s 100, Michael Frater of Jamaica clocked 10.11 to beat Ramil Guliyev of Turkey and Kim Collins of St. Kitts and Nevis.

   In the women’s shot put, Belarussian world indoor champion Nadzeya Ostapchuk threw a season-best 20.94 meters, beating her mark of 20.59 set last month in Eugene, United States.

   American shot-putter Jillian Camarena-Williams was next with 19.15.
