Viljoen wins second bronze for SA

Sunette Viljoen improved her African record by almost two metres in the women’s javelin throw final on Friday to secure South Africa’s second bronze medal at the World Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea.
The South African, a two-time Commonwealth champion, produced her best effort in the fifth round with a 68.38m heave, improving the 66.47m continental record she set at the World Student Games in Shenzhen, China, last month.
Olympic silver medallist Mariya Abakumova of Russia won gold with a new championship record of 71.99m, and world record holder Barbora Spotakova of the Czech Republic clinched silver with a best of 71.58m.
