Leroy Mokgatle wins fourth prize in prestigious Prix de Lausanne international ballet competition
Sixteen-year-old South African dancer Leroy Mokgatle has walked away with the fourth prize in the prestigious Prix de Lausanne international ballet competition in Switzerland.
Mokgatle and 19 other candidates between the ages of 15 to 18‚ were chosen from the 71 contenders from around the world to dance in the finals. He was the only South African participating in the competition.
The overall winner of the competition was Hang Yu uit China.
The competition took place for the 44th time this year and is still considered as one of the most important platforms for up-and-coming young dancers. Dancers performed a classical‚ as well as a contemporary variation in the competition.

Mokgatle‚ who trains with Angelique and Sayward Harris at the Art of Motion dance school in Johannesburg‚ was also winner of the gold medal at the Genée International ballet competition in London in September 2015.
As winner of the 4th prize‚ he receives a scholarship‚ as well as the Audience Favourite Prize of CHF 500.
