Roland Schoeman disqualifies himself from Olympic relay contention

Roland Schoeman scratched himself from the 100m freestyle on Wednesday morning‚ effectively disqualifying himself from contention for Olympic relays‚ a Swimming SA official said.The official said Schoeman withdrew to focus on his specialist 50m freestyle race‚ which starts with heats and semi-finals on Friday.Schoeman was a key member of the 4x100m freestyle relay team that won gold at the 2004 Olympics.Backstroker Reid fifth fastest in the 100mThe three fastest in Thursday’s 100m freestyle final are scheduled to join Chad Le Clos in a time trial on Friday night to try qualify the 4x100m freestyle relay team for the Rio Olympics in August.And Thursday's champion will also join Le Clos‚ Cameron van der Burgh and Christopher Reid in attempting to book a spot for 4x100m medley relay.Chad Le Clos makes a splash on his 24th birthdayDouglas Erasmus was the quickest of the morning‚ going 49.54sec.
