She's the one, says Schalk with a grin
Rugby star Schalk Burger has scored himself a fiancée.
The 27-year-old Springbok flank's long-term lady love, Michele de Munck, was spotted wearing a diamond engagement ring at the launch of a social club in Cape Town this week.
De Munck, 24, an interior designer from Stellenbosch, has become a regular face at A-list rugby functions, where she is known for her high spirits and sexy short skirts.
The pair have managed to keep their engagement under wraps since Burger asked De Munck to marry him on her birthday, October 23.
But this week, they confirmed their plans to wed. "We've known each other for a long time, and she's just really a nice girl," said Burger. The pair spoke to the Sunday Times from a house in the West Coast town of Yzerfontein, where Burger was helping De Munck move furniture for a client.
"I've watched enough rugby matches, so now he can help me move a few couches," she joked. "We've known each other for seven years, of which we've dated for six. So that's a very good foundation as we understand each other very well and we laugh together like best friends."
"He chose the ring himself because he wanted to surprise me on my birthday. And he did - I didn't suspect anything! It's a cushion-cut diamond, very pretty and unique."
Also at the Puma Social Club launch was cricketer Herschelle Gibbs, whose contract with the Proteas was terminated yesterday. Gibbs' s candid autobiography recently provoked a storm of controversy.
