Francois Louw fresh and motivated ahead of Irish Test

Springbok flank Francois Louw feels fresh and motivated after a four-week break heading into Saturday's first Test against Ireland at Newlands. Louw‚ who captain’s English club side Bath‚ hasn’t played in a month since their final match of the season against Leicester. It’s allowed Louw to overcome all niggles as he reunited with coach Allister Coetzee for the first time since 2011. “That little break did me the world of good – it was the first proper break I’ve had since the 2015 World Cup‚” Louw said.“It’s great to work with Allister again. It’s funny how life goes full circle because I was privileged to play under him at the Stormers and Western Province at the start of my career.“My last game under Allister was the 2011 Super Rugby semi-final against the Crusaders. I have many fond memories of playing in his teams.”A new era in Springbok rugbyThe Springboks will go into the June Test series against Ireland with a callow set of halfbacks, including uncapped flyhalf Garth April and scrumhalves Faf de Klerk and Nic Groom included in a 31-man squad. Louw and the other two overseas-based Boks – Duane Vermeulen and Steven Kitshoff – joined up with the squad in Cape Town on Sunday. The flank admitted that he would have to reconsider his career in England if SA Rugby‚ as expected‚ closed the door on overseas-based players being selected for the Springboks.“Of course it’s made me think about my future. It is tough because playing for the Springboks is the ultimate for a South African rugby player and I’m fortunate and honoured to be back here‚” Louw said.“I do play overseas and I believe it has made me a better player and brought the best out of me.“I’ve grown substantially as a player on the field and as a person off it. And those skills and attributes are put back into the Springbok side.Boks battered but 'good to go'The newly selected Springbok squad limped into Stellenbosch on Sunday, but coach Allister Coetzee was happy they would all be ready to take part in his tough schedule. “I can understand the reasoning behind wanting to select domestically based players. But it’s out of my hands and I will give it everything when I play for the Boks.“It’s a new era in Bok rugby and it’s exciting. We will try and build on the things that worked and improve areas where we didn’t do so well.“I only met some of the players in the squad for the first time today and they bring a lot of energy. It’s an exciting time because no one knows what to expect from us.” - TMG Digital..
