Clermont captain Aurelien Rougerie was suspended for 20 days on Wednesday by France’s National Rugby League (LNR) disciplinary commission for dangerous play in a Top 14 match with Toulon.
The 30-year-old French international centre, who was left out of the Six Nations squad for Saturday’s final match with Wales because of the possibility of his being suspended, will be eligible to play again on April 5.
Rougerie was one of three players involved in the 19-12 victory by Clermont on March 4 to be punished.
Clermont lock Thibault Privat was suspended for 30 days for hitting an opponent while Toulon second-row forward Jocelino Suta also received a 30 day ban for a similar offence.
The two clubs were also fined 5,000 euros each for a mass brawl.
