Sedibe might keep Jordaan's old job at Safa

The SA Football Association is likely to offer Leslie Sedibe a long-term contract as its CEO.

Sedibe was appointed to the position earlier this year and was believed to be keeping the seat warm for Danny Jordaan, who left the post to hea d South Africa's World Cup organising committee.

Sedibe and Jordaan were set to go toe-to-toe for the job after the World Cup, but that looming battle now seems unlikely to take place.

Sedibe was introduced as Safa's chief executive officer in January, after the sacking of Raymond Hack. Sedibe, 36, was given a 12-month contract that stood no chance of being renewed because Safa's top brass expected Jordaan back. He is, according to the association's constitution, still the chief executive.

But Safa vice-president Mwelo Nonkonyana said the organisation's executive committee would not panic if Jordaan decided to go elsewhere.

"I was not aware that he [Jordaan] is thinking about not taking up the chief executive officer post," said Nonkonyana. "But I am happy with what Sedibe has been doing since he took charge of that post in January. He has shown he is able to do the job and I personally would not have any issues about giving him a long-term contract."

Nonkonyana said there would be a meeting between Safa and Jordaan to discuss plans.

"Jordaan is still very much part of Safa and we would like to hear his views going forward. We are also expecting a report from him as soon as the winding up of the World Cup is complete," Nonkonyana told The Times.

He said that, at the meeting, the Safa leadership would ask Jordaan for his final decision about re-joining the association in his "former" position.

Jordaan was seconded to the local organising committee in 2005, a year after South Africa won its bid to host the soccer World Cup.
