SV Hamburg will be without Dennis Aogo for the opening game of the new Bundesliga season against Schalke 04 on Saturday as the defender continues to struggle with a trapped sciatic nerve.

“He won’t play,” Hamburg coach Armin Veh confirmed.

Instead, the 23-year-old Germany international will continue to undergo an individual training programme in an effort to cure the problem.

Marcell Jansen, meanwhile, has returned to training for Hamburg after suffering with flu-like symptoms while Piotr Trochowski is also expected to be available for selection against Schalke after receiving treatment for an Achilles problem.
