Mamelodi Sundowns' Matty Pattison, Leeds United's Davide Somma and Daylon Claasen will be called up to the Bafana Bafana squad to play the US in the Nelson Mandela Challenge next week.

Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane will rest captain Aaron Mokoena and veteran midfielder MacBeth Sibaya to give the fringe players a chance.

Mokoena and Sibaya are still very much part of the team and are expected to play a vital role in the qualifiers for the 2012 and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

Another player Mosimane wanted to pick was Holland-based Kamohelo Mokotjo.

However, Feyenoord's rapidly improving midfielder, a former SA under-20 international, has picked up a knee injury and did not play for his team last week. Mokotjo is certainly one for the future.

Mosimane spent four days in Europe last week monitoring players. He was in Belgium, where he watched Siboniso Gaxa, Lance Davids and Claasen, who all play for Lierse FC.

He also saw Anele Ngcongca's side, Racing Genk, lose 2-1 to Anderlecht.

"I was impressed to see that all guys played. Not only that, but that they all played 90 minutes," said Mosimane.

"It is encouraging to see our players taking the field regularly as it keeps them in tip-top condition for when they come to the national team.

"In the case of Ngcongca, he is playing for a big team. I was able to speak to some people from his club and they are impressed with him."

The former SuperSport United coach had intended to travel to England to watch Somma, who has been scoring regularly for his club.

"I will go back and watch more players, because it's important to visit them abroad and not just wait for them to come to South Africa," said Mosimane.

The squad to face the US will be announced on Wednesday. Everton's Steven Pienaar is likely to captain the side.
