Kaizer Chiefs look a sure bet to challenge Absa Premiership defending champions Orlando Pirates for the title this season.

Amakhosi's win over Soweto rivals Moroka Swallows last night proved that Chiefs are strong contenders for league winners' medals, but it also exposed the team's casual approach in front of goal.

Lehlohonolo Majoro and Josta Dladla were the only scorers for Chiefs, but a few more goals could have come from their teammates.

The two goal-getters were responsible for the two goals in the club's first Premiership victory against Jomo Cosmos last week.

Amakhosi were unstoppable in the first half, and had it not been for their low conversion rate, maximum points could have been assured long before halftime.

Majoro was impressive without strike partner Bernard Parker, drawing first blood with a 19th-minute goal.

The quick build-up from Amakhosi was too much for Swallows in the opening minutes.

TheDube Birds held on for a while, but Chiefs kept piling on the pressure.

Eventually their defence cracked and Chiefs found the holes.

However, after 45 minutes, the scoreboard did not quite reflect that, with Chiefs having only managed to strike twice.

Chiefs scored their second in the 21st minute when Dladla, who was picked ahead of Parker in the starting line-up, tapped the ball in from a Siphiwe Tshabalala cross.

But the goal was followed by a lot of poor finishing. Tshabalala hit the post, while Majoro could have scored his second goal of the night - his third since signing for Chiefs - but the former Amazulu marksman ballooned his shot.

He had done everything right, rounding the keeper and also getting the better of the Dube Birds' resistance. The final touch yet again failed the striker.

Tinashe Nengomasha joined in the fun in the 65th minute, but his sniff at goal came off the woodwork. It would have been a rare goal for the midfield anchorman, who watched as Tshabalala scored from the rebound but was ruled offside.

Swallows were forced to make a change as early as the 23rd minute because of an injury to one of their key players. Luvhengo Mungomeni limped off and was replaced by a Ashraf Hendricks.

The only time Swallows threatened Chiefs was when David Mathebula tried to get the better of his former teammate Itumeleng Khune with a well-struck freekick. But the Bafana keeper made a routine save just before the halftime break.

While Swallows hadn't made any changes to the first team that came from behind to beat Santos 3-1 on Friday evening, Amakhosi had made three.

Thomas Sweswe and Mthokozisi Yende were late withdrawals because of flu.

Other scores: Ajax CT 1 Maritzburg United 1; SSU 2 Arrows 1; Amazulu 0 FS Stars 1; Cosmos 0 Sundowns 2; Wits 1 Santos 0
