Kaizer Chiefs will feel a little like the Welsh rugby team today, because they did everything but win the game against Ajax Cape Town at Greenpoint stadium last night.
Ajax CT (1) 2 - Kaizer Chiefs (0) 1
The home side handed Chiefs their first defeat of the Absa Premiership season with a plucky victory, thanks to goals by Terror Fanteni - via a penalty - and Lebogang Manyama, and a last-minute fingertip save by goalie Sean Roberts.
For Chiefs, Reneilwe Letsholonyane netted two minutes into the second half to level the score after Fanteni's first-half penalty.
Chiefs dominated the opening exchanges and had Ajax under pressure, but could not make their superiority count.
Siphiwe Tshabalala was a constant menace, drifting from deep positions to join the attack, while Bernard Parker's industrious work went unrewarded.
Early on, Parker forced a good save from Roberts, who parried the stinging drive onto the outside of the post, while Tshabalala also had a weaker effort easily saved.
For all their dominance, Chiefs were hard done by a freakish goal when the ball bounced off Tinashe Nengomasha and fell into Manyama's path for Ajax's winner.
Roberts' heroics in injury time ensured all three points for the Urban Warriors.
