A Mamelodi Sundowns player who was arrested for drinking and driving in Sunnyside, Pretoria, at about 2.05am yesterday is expected to appear in court today.

The player, a former Orlando Pirates star now at Sundowns, will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court after he was caught driving on the wrong side of the road in Sunnyside, Pretoria.

"[Officers] spotted a silver VW Golf that was driving on the wrong side of the road, facing oncoming traffic," police said.

"The police accosted the driver and ordered him to get out of his vehicle.

"He was unable to speak properly or get out of the vehicle without assistance and he smelled of alcohol. He was immediately arrested for drunk driving."

Sundowns public relations officer Alex Shakoane said the club had not been officially told about the arrest of their player.
