A 25 year old suspect has briefly appeared before the Boksburg Magistrate's Court on Friday in relation to the murder of Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper and captain Senzo Meyiwa.

Details are still sketchy but Boksburg Magistrate's Court senior prosecutor Henk Strydom confirmed the arrest and the court appearance. Times LIVE understands the name of the suspect is Zanokuhle Mbatha.

"I can confirm that a suspect has appeared this afternoon (at the Boksburg Magistrate's Court)," Strydom told Times LIVE on Friday.

"That's all I can say at the moment other than to add that the suspect in question has applied for legal assistance and the matter has been postponed to November 11."

Meyiwa was shot dead at the house of his pop-star and actress girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, and will be laid to rest at Heroes Acre at the Chesterville cemetery in Durban on Saturday.
