Bastian Schweinsteiger’s R250 million-a-season at his new club Manchester United will make the German international the highest-paid midfielder in the Premier League, according to a report.

This is after agreeing to a staggering three-year deal on Monday worth £275,000-a-week.

The deal, according to the Daily Star, will cost United almost £40 million in wages and will also see Schweinsteiger leapfrog Manchester City rival Yaya Toure as the most expensive midfielder in English football history.

United boss Louis van Gaal made Schweinsteiger his main summer target, as exclusively revealed by Starsport in May, and told Old Trafford chiefs to break the bank to land him.

The 30-year-old has won every major honour in the game and inspired the Germans to World Cup glory in Brazil last summer.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Bayern Munich. It has been an incredible journey and I didn't take the decision to leave lightly,” said the German at his unveiling at Old Trafford on Monday.
