Reigning Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions Kaizer Chiefs splashed close to R3 million to land the signature of free agent Ugandan winger, Sula Matovu, according to a report on Thursday.

This was revealed by Soccer Laduma sources, who claim that, after everything was considered to make the deal happen, around R3 million was agreed upon for the Ugandan.

“You should remember that Chiefs’ didn’t buy the player as he is a free agent. It was then up to the two parties to agree on what the player wanted and his salary as well,” said the soccer magazine’s sources.

“For the signing on fee, the agent money and the other settlement fees, it’s close to R3 million, which I think is very fair if you look at how good the player is,” the source explained.

“He will bring a lot to the team. He is only a 22-year-old, but he has the experience. It’s a good deal for both sides.”

According to the report, the majority of the payment included a signing on bonus but excludes the player’s wages, which will be paid separately.
