National First Division side FC Cape Town have signed little-known teenage Zimbabwean midfielder Marshall Munetsi and are convinced they have unearthed the next Yaya Toure. The African Beasts have a proud recent record of developing talent for the overseas market and Premier Soccer League‚ and are excited about their latest capture. The giant 19-year-old arrives from the Friendly Academy in Harare‚ which was only started in 2012 but has already sent youngsters to the junior set-up of Spanish La Liga side Espanyol‚ and one to the AC Milan juniors.Munetsi is likely to feature strongly for FC Cape Town in the NFD this season if their excitement over his capture is anything to go by.“This prodigy is in the mould of a typical Yaya Toure. Big‚ strong‚ mobile and a good passer of the ball‚” the club said in a statement.Meanwhile‚ the club have also announced they are seeking to buy a franchise in the Western Cape ABC Motsepe League‚ the division below them. They will hope to use the team to give their academy players some experience in the top-three leagues of South African football. The club has said they are open to a partnership‚ with reports that they could link up with Hellenic‚ an old mainstay of the South African top-flight now making a revival under Mark Byrne.Nigeria forward Emmanuel Emenike is one who rose to prominence at FC Cape Town and has since gone on to have a successful career in Turkey and Russia.New Ajax Cape Town signing Prince Nxumalo was also developed by the team and makes his return to the Mother City after some years away at SuperSport United.Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfielder Asavela Mbekile is another player who rose to prominence at FC Cape Town and was later snapped up by Moroka Swallows.– The Times..
