Kaizer Chiefs players and coach say that despite their loss against rivals Orlando Pirates at the weekend‚ they are planning a strong showing for the MTN8 tournament that begins this week. The Amakhosi‚ under new coach Steve Komphela‚ will be playing against his former employers Maritzburg United at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday night‚ with kick off at 7.30pm. The tournament features the top eight teams from the previous season's league. The Soweto side won the tournament last year."Our target is to win many trophies. We are a bunch of winners at Kaizer Chiefs‚" midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane told a press briefing today.According to the Official PSL @OfficialPSL twitter feed‚ the player praised Komphela’s work with the team‚ saying “Steve Komphela is a good coach. We have been working well with him”.Looking ahead to the upcoming tournament‚ he said: “We want to retain the MTN8 trophy… Maritzburg United is a tough team to play home and away. We need to be ready on Wednesday”.“Our coach knows how Maritzburg United play. We have been working on what we know‚" Letsholonyane added.Komphela told the briefing‚ “At Chiefs‚ we believe in teamwork. The structure is there to generate success”.“We know we are the defending champions and the theme will be to defend it‚” the coach said.“I've never seen a chairman that is as calm as Kaizer Motaung. He's given me no mandate.”New captain Siphiwe Tshabalala downplayed the team’s defeat 4-3 on penalties to Orlando Pirates in the Carling Black Label‚ also at FNB Stadium.“The game against Pirates was a tough one. I think we played well‚” he said.“We win and lose as a team. We don't point fingers at each other. Collective effort is important at Chiefs‚” he said.Letsholonyane said the Bucs match was a good measure of the team’s readiness for this season‚ commenting: “The loss on Saturday didn't bring us down that much. We wanted to check how far we are in terms of preparation”.Tshabalala welcomed the return of Itumeleng Khune to the team‚ saying: “"We happy that @IIKHUNE_32_16 is back. His one of us and he grew at Kaizer Chiefs”...
