Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has literally slammed the door on defender Kwanda Mngonyama's chances of gamed time, saying the 21-year-old no-nonsense centre-back is not good enough to command a regular place in his star-studded team.

Mngonyama has spent the past two seasons on loan at Bidvest Wits and Maritzburg United respectively playing regularly and even being rewareded with a national team call up from Shakes Mashaba.

But, according to Mosimane, even if Mngonyama wants to stay and fight for a place in the Sundowns’ team, “he is not going to start.”

“He has to work for it. He is not ready to be honest,” Mosimane is quoted as saying by KickOff. “ He is a good football player, top potential. You can write anything about him but he is not ready.

The former Bafana Bafana coach also downplayed suggestions Mngonyama could fill the void left by Alje Schut's departure, saying Thabo Nthethe is a better fit.

“Where is he going to play in the position of Alje Schut? Thabo Nthethe has got experience and he is stable.
