Despite reaching two CAF competition finals in two years, Orlando Pirates were ranked 20 places below their nemesis Kaizer Chiefs in the latest annual rankings released by FootballDatabase.

The rankings raised eyebrows considering the fact that Pirates, who lost to Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League final in 2013, are in this year’s CAF Confederations Cup against Tunisian outfit Etoile du Sahel, who are ranked in 10th place.

FootballDatabase website, which allocates points based on the club’s performances, ranked Amakhosi as the fourth best team in the CAF region, behind DR Congo duo TP Mazembe and AS Vita, and Al-Merreikh of Sudan.

Even Mamelodi Sundowns, in 12 spot, are ranked higher than the Buccaneers with Bidvest Wits coming in 30th and Bloemfontein Celtic in 42nd.

TOP 10:
1. TP Mazembe (DR Congo) - 1623 points
2. AS Vita Club (DR Congo) - 1582
3. Al-Merreikh (Sudan) - 1580
4. Kaizer Chiefs (South Africa) - 1565
5. Esperance (Tunisia) - 1562
6. Coton Sport (Cameroon) - 1552
7. Al-Hilal (Sudan) - 1551
8. Zamalek (Egypt) - 1542
9. Al-Ahly (Egypt) - 1540
10. Etoile du Sahel (Tunisia) - 1530
