A protesting student at the Wits University has told of how Bidvest Wits head coach Gavin Hunt charged at him with racial slurs before slapping him in the face, leaving him "a bit unconscious" and with a teary eye.

Student Utsile Seakeco told Jacaranda News, through their Twitter handle on Thursday that he was left "a bit unconscious and my eye was watery after he slapped me."

Seakeco said his ordeal at the hands of the temperamental Hunt started when protesting students closed off the gate leading into the Wits soccer academy, where the Clever Boys train.

Seakeco told the radio station that senior Wits players tried to stop the three-time League-winning coach as he charged at him.

Hunt declined to comment on the allegations when the radio station contacted him and said he was busy with training.

University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) students on Thursday again blockaded access points to the campus in a protest over an increase in fees. The action saw the university having to suspend all “lectures and academic activities…for one day only…in the interests of protecting the safety and security of staff and students” on Wednesday.
