Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana defender Erick Mathoho was left “devastated” after he survived a hijacking in Atteridgeville, west of Tshwane on Monday night.

Mathoho was driving with his brother and sister when three gun-totting men approached and robbed them of his car and a few personal belongings, KickOff reported on Tuesday.

Mathoho’s representative, Tim Sukazi, told the soccer website that the lanky defender is “devastated” and “struggling to comprehend what happened.”

Sukazi thanked the police after Mathoho’s car was swiftly recovered by a police helicopter.

“We applaud the police – they responded so quickly and did their job perfectly,” said Sukazi.
