Steven Pienaar racially abused in FA Cup fourth round win at Carlisle United
Steven Pienaar was racially abused at Brunton Park Stadium following Everton’s 3-0 over Carlisle United in an FA Cup fourth round tie at Brunton Park.
The former South Africa captain was celebrating a goal with former Ivory Coast international Arouna Koune when a small section of the crowd behind the United goal allegedly racially abused the two.
“When we scored the goal, Arouna Kone and Steven Pienaar were celebrating,” Martinez is quoted in the UK's Daily Express.
“A very, very small minority in the back of the stand behind the goal made some racial remarks. As you know, there is no sort of room for that type of behaviour. But I must stress it was a very small minority.
“I want to believe that it was just an emotional reaction to the disappointment of conceding a goal. It was handled very well by Lee Mason.”
