Former Bloemfontein Celtic defender Johannes Motlhaping passed away on Wednesday due to an undisclosed illness.

“He died on Wednesday afternoon, he was very sick. He was not only my teammate but a very close friend of mine. He will probably be buried next week as we are still waiting for his family to give us a date,” Motlhaping’s former teammate at Celtic John Maduka told KickOff on Friday.

“I couldn't believe it was true when I first heard the news because two weeks ago he came to see us at Siwelele Park. But I could tell he was not okay, he had something like a rush on his body as if he was allergic to something. I asked him if he has been to a doctor and he said yes.

Motlhaping was last registered with National First Division outfit Vasco Da Game before he died.

Details about his memorial service and funeral are still unknown.
