FIFA's acting secretary general Markus Kattner reads documents before the Extraordinary FIFA Congress in Zurich, Switzerland February 26, 2016. Crisis-hit world football governing body FIFA faces one of the most important days in its 112-year history when it elects a new leader on Friday hoping to usher in a fresh era after decades of tawdry controversy.

Suspended Kuwait and Indonesia were officially ruled out of Friday's vote for the new FIFA president, leaving 207 of the 209 federations with the job of picking Sepp Blatter's successor.

Their absence was confirmed by Markus Kattner, acting general secretary of football's scandal-tainted world body, at FIFA's Congress in Zurich.

The news could be a blow to leading candidate Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim al Khalifa, head of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) which includes the two missing nations.
