Angry fans aren’t helping Bloem Celtic players‚ says coach Letsoaka

Supporter discontent is taking a heavy toll on Bloemfontein Celtic players‚ said coach Serame Letsoaka as the club continued to tumble down the Premier Soccer League standings in the wake of more riotous scenes by “Siwelele” in Soweto on Saturday night. Fighting broke out during the club’s 1-0 loss to Orlando Pirates as Celtic fans first threw objects onto the Orlando Stadium pitch and were then involved in ugly skirmishes with Pirates supporters in scenes not witnessed in South African football in years. It follows fan boycotts‚ demonstrations and blocking of stadium exits in Bloemfontein at recent home matches‚ where Celtic fans have been protesting against owner Max Tshabalala‚ who they allege has not consulted properly with them and is not investing adequately in the club.“At the moment we have been going through a bad time in the team and obviously when the results are not forthcoming‚ and the supporters do what they are doing‚ the state of mind of the players is in another zone‚” said Letsoaka after Celtic lost for a third game in a row to remain 12th in the standings.“Obviously when you lose game after game and there is this type of pressure we are experiencing‚ the confidence of the players will definitely drop. It is the responsibility of the coach to improve the level of confidence to where it should be. So we have to make sure we zone in‚ we make them focus on the game. Unfortunately these are the things that happen.”Letsoaka took over when Clinton Larsen left in November after disagreement with the owner despite Celtic being sixth in the standings. The new coach has won only once in 10 matches since his debut in December but insisted things could turn around.“We still have 27 points to play for‚ we have nine games to go and we are going to fight in each of the nine games that are left. If you also look at the log there is not a lot of difference in middle in terms of points. "You can win one game and leap up three or four spots although when you lose you also spiral down the same way. We are going to make sure we are going to fight for every single point remaining in our last nine games‚” he said.Celtic next meet Bidvest Wits in the Nedbank Cup on Friday and then play Free State Stars at home and Mamelodi Sundowns away in their next league games...
