Despite his team not participating in this years continental competition, Orlando Pirates coach Eric Tinkler has wished both Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs well in the 2016 CAF Champions League.

However, the coach admits that he wants to see his charges win their second continental crown before Chiefs and Sundowns wins their first ever titles.

Both Chiefs and Sundowns have progressed to the next round of the 10 month long tournament this past weekend and the Buccaneers will be hoping to book their spot for the 2017 campaign.

“Obviously we want to see them succeeding in the CAF Champions league,” Tinkler insisted.

“Because we all benefit out of that and that is why we have two South African teams in the competition and they should be grateful to us because we opened two spots for them after we did well in 2013.

“I also wish to see one of them going far in the competition so that maybe there must be at least three spots for South African teams next year.

“But since we are the only team to have a gold star on top of our emblem, it would be good if one day another team in the country wins it as well.

“But that must happen after we win our second gold star not before that,” he laughed.

With only nine games to go before the end of the 2015/16 campaign, the Buccaneers are still occupying the 7th spot on the log and will need to finish at least second to ensure their Champions League place in 2017.
