SuperSport United and Polokwane City play to 2-2 draw

On many occasions this season‚ SuperSport United captain Dean Furman has admitted he has not quite been at his best since moving to the Absa Premiership from England. On Sunday‚ the midfielder Furman produced arguably his finest moment this season with a long range goal‚ but it was not enough to win as United were held to a 2-2 draw by Polokwane City at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Tshwane. The midfielder‚ who works tirelessly in midfield but rarely finds the back of the net‚ unleashed a powerful shot from range with his left foot just after the hour mark to give United a lead they hoped would get them a valuable three points. He could not have asked for a better way to open his scoring account for the Tshwane outfit. However‚ Furman's goal was cancelled out by Tshepo Matsemela a minute from time as City left United coach Stuart Baxter frustrated on the touchline. The last time these two teams met‚ striker Thobani Mncwango bagged an impressive four goals to give City an emphatic 4-1 victory which contributed immensely to the exit of former United coach Gordon Igesund.Mncwango was not available on Sunday due to personal reasons‚ but his replacement Esau Kanyenda did a fairly good job upfront.Kanyenda‚ who struck the upright in the 12th minute with a header‚ cancelled out Dove Wome's first half opener just after the hour mark when he finished off from close range to give the visiting side some hope of going back to Polokwane with a point in the bag.Despite going 2-1 down five minutes later‚ City fought hard and scored a crucial second goal at the death to go back home with a point.United‚ who are in danger of finishing outside the top eight‚ should have really won this match.Early in the second half‚ Jeremy Brockie had two good opportunities to extend United's lead. The first one he shot straight at Chigova after receiving a pass from Michael Morton. A couple of minutes later‚ Brockie shot wide of goal from just outside the box‚ much to the dismay of coach Stuart Baxter.City midfielder Cole Alexander gave United a glimpse of what to expect next season by winning the man of the match award. He has signed a pre-contract with Matsatsantsa and Baxter has admitted he is looking forward to working with the midfielder next term...
