The SA Football Association technical committee are currently meeting at Safa House in Nasrec to receive the report-back from Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba on the team’s failed 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. Mashaba and his technical staff are expected to receive a grilling on some glaring errors made in the qualifiers‚ which were brought to an end with a whimper with a 1-1 dead rubber draw against Mauritania in Nelspruit on Friday‚ September 2.The Bafana coach admitted to not researching the opposition in the debilitating two opening results of the campaign – a 0-0 draw against Gambia in Durban and disastrous 3-1 away defeat against Mauritania.Mashaba also admitted to having been unaware that Bafana would play on an artificial surface against Mauritania in Nouakchott.Bafana finished in third place in Group M on seven points‚ behind Cameroon (14 points) and Mauritania (eight). Gambia were in last place on two points. While Mashaba failed to reach Gabon 2017‚ he did surpass expectations qualifying for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.Bafana could not progress past a tough Group C at Equatorial Guinea 2015‚ losing 3-1 against Algeria‚ drawing 1-1 against Senegal and losing 2-1 against Ghana.TMG Digital/TMG Sport..
