Frenchman Denis Lavagne became the first coaching casualty of the new Premier Soccer League (PSL) season when he was shown the door by Free State Stars on Thursday.

Stars general manager Rantsi Mokoena said they elected to terminate the Frenchman's contract with immediate effect after the relationship between the two parties broke down.

Mokoena said Lavagne and the Stars management agreed at the start of the relationship that they would part ways if the relationship broke down‚ or if the club did not perform to expectation.

"It has been a tough decision that the club has had to make knowing how early in the season it is and the track record of the head coach‚" Mokoena said.

"However‚ due to the recent loss to Golden Arrows and the mood within the first team‚ the club has elected to avoid the risk and look to include a head coach who will assist in building the moral of the footballers which we believe will result in valuable points."

Stars have played three games and are yet to win a match this season.

They lost to rrows and Chippa United but managed a draw against Bloemfontein Celtic.
