A total of five hours without scoring has Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela ringing the alarm bells as they head into Telkom Knockout action at the weekend. Chiefs face Free State Stars in the quarterfinals of the Telkom Knockout at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Sunday and Komphela is sweating over his players' inability to find the back of the net.“From a team perspective it is a concern we are not scoring goals‚" Komphela said."For the strikers‚ I just hope this does not get into their heads that it become a heavy weight that means they cannot properly apply themselves.”Chiefs registered a third successive goalless draw on Wednesday night when they dropped points at ‘home’ to newly promoted Baroka FC at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. They had been held to a 0-0 draw by Maritzburg United after extra time in the first round of the Telkom Knockout‚ before winning on penalties‚ and then played out a goalless draw in the Soweto Derby with Orlando Pirates on Saturday. The tie with Baroka extended to 300 minutes the threat of failure to score in their last three games.“You could feel the anxiety from the supporters in relation to us getting a goal."The primary responsibility of any forward is to score goals and when those goals are not forthcoming it batters their confidence.Chiefs and Pirates stutter to Soweto 'drawby' No 50The day the Soweto Derby provides a truckload of goals will be when pigs fly. "But most of our goals have been team goals and we need the whole team to take responsibility for scoring.“It’s a concern‚ but we will go back and work on it. This is what we get paid for‚” added Komphela. On the positive side‚ Chiefs have not conceded a goal in their last seven games‚ which means Itumeleng Khune has not been beaten for 11 hours. This includes a 2-0 away triumph at Free State Stars in late September.“Clean sheets are always good to have but we need to start scoring again."We must find a way to generate goals.”Komphela took his side back to Johannesburg for two days after Wednesday night's 0-0 draw with Baroka and will go back to Durban for Sunday's Telkom Knockout quarterfinal encounter. - TMG Digital..
