Hunt pins his hopes for a Wits league title on his treatment room

Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt hopes the treatment room at his club will clear substantially by next Tuesday when the Premier League-chasing club embark on a brutal schedule of games that will either make or break their title chances.

Nazeer Allie‚ Granwald Scott‚ Thabang Monare and James Keane all missed the midweek 1-1 draw at Cape Town City because of injuries while Hunt said he was forced to prematurely rush Xola Mlambo and Daine Kate back to help bolster their chances.

Allie and Scott are both long-term injuries but Monare and Keane will be needed as Wits embark on a taxing schedule of six matches in the space of 15 days.

It starts next Tuesday against fellow title hopefuls SuperSport United‚ followed by a game at struggling Highlands Park on Friday.

On Monday‚ May 1‚ Wits host a potential title decider against champions Mamelodi Sundowns‚ then play Orlando Pirates at home three days later and three days after that host Maritzburg United before going to Free State Stars on Wednesday May 10.

“The biggest problem for us is that I’ve had to change the team every week‚ not because I want to‚ but because we just haven’t been able to put out the same team every week‚” Hunt said.

Wits‚ who have never won the league title‚ are one point behind leaders City in the title race but have played two games less.

Hunt’s side are one point ahead of Sundowns with both now having played 22 matches.

“I feel we have got ourselves into such a good position that we don’t now want to have any regrets now‚” he said.
