Tobey Maguire's star turn in the title role crystallized the growing audience appetite for exciting fantasy adventures. Without this film, director Sam Raimi would not have made the Hollywood A-List which has allowed him to proceed with fantasy projects like a new version of 20 000 Leagues under the Sea and a revamp of his own The Evil Dead franchise.
