African Fashion International’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week came to an end in Johannesburg last night and the final evening saw a strong focus on swimwear, menswear and bridal couture.

Favourite Show: R by Rich Mnisi x Maps Maponyane and Beach Cult

Former AFI Fast Track winner Rich Mnisi came through with one of the most memorable collections of the week. The talented young designer collaborated with Maps Maponyane for a presentation that included some sheer fabrication, conceptual prints and exquisite silhouettes

The SS16 collections would be nothing without swimwear and Beachcult’s upcoming range was nothing short of impressive. The intersection of Bohemian and Tropicana proved to be a winning combination for the ethically produced luxury brand.

Favourite Soundtrack

The music  for Mozambican menswear brand Xipixi’s show was beautifully curated, with a soundtrack that included William DeVaughn ( Be Thankful) , Barry White (It’s Ecstasy When You Lay Down)  and Kendrick Lamar (Untitled 03)

The Best of Bridal

This Sterns challenged 12 talented designers to make 12 dresses inspired by twelve rings from the jewellery manufacturer’s range. The designers who included NN Vintage, Stefania Morland and Thabo Makhetha all brought something memorable to the runway with their unique translations of the rings into their designs.
