How to make your own coffee liqueur

This vodka-based liqueur makes a wonderful gift; drink it as a shot or use it to add a coffee kick to your cocktails

Makes: 2 x 750ml bottles

Ingredients:

1 litre water

400g (2 cups) white sugar

400g (2 cups) brown sugar

125ml (½ cup) strong instant coffee granules

5ml (1 tsp) vanilla extract

750ml vodka

Method:

1) Place water and both sugars in a pot. Stir over low heat till sugar has dissolved, then bring to the boil and simmer for 10 minutes.

2) Remove from heat and stir in coffee.

3) Cool, then add vanilla and vodka.

4) Pour into sterilised bottles and store in a cool dark place for 2 weeks before drinking.
