Prince Albert II is worth $1-billion, putting him ahead of Britain's Queen Elizabeth on the Forbes list of richest royals.

The latest list reported that, although the recession cut his fortune by almost $400-million, he remained at number nine, thanks to his vast real estate portfolio and collections of art and antique cars, as well as his stake in the Monte Carlo casino.

The magazine reported that Queen Elizabeth's personal wealth was estimated at $500-million. However, this does not include assets belonging to the Crown Estate, a property portfolio managed by an independent panel and which includes Buckingham Palace.

The richest royal is Thailand's King Bhumibol with an estimated fortune of $30-billion.

The 10 richest royals, according to Forbes, are:

1. King Bhumibol Adulyadeh of Thailand ($30-billion).

2. Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei ($20-billion).

3. King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia ($18-billion).

4. President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed of the UAE ($15-billion).

5. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid of Dubai ($4.5-billion).

6. Prince Hans-Adam II of Liechtenstein ($3.5-billion).

7. King Mohammed VI of Morocco ($2.5-billion).

8. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani of Qatar ($2.4-billion).

9. Prince Albert II of Monaco ($1-billion).

10. French-based Muslim leader His Highness the Aga Khan ($800-million).
