A pukka Hindu priest performed the wedding of the couple, known on screen as Priya and Rajesh, to be screened on SABC3 on September 21.

The stars were dressed in traditional Indian garb, Priya in a red-and-gold sari and Rajesh in a long, cream sherwani coat with red gems.

Johannesburg priest Pundit Roshan Singh, who performed the ceremony, said: "According to my horoscope readings, I knew that I had acting capabilities, but I did not know it would come in my life in this way. The crew were amazed how well I managed the shoot.

"We kept the culture and everything in place, so when viewers watch the wedding, they'll be able to educate themselves. I tried to keep the important aspects of the wedding as authentic as possible, like the garlanding, taking the seven steps, the bride putting her foot on the stone, the groom applying the sindhur in the parting of the bride's hair and the placing of the mangal sutra."

Ashish Gangapersad, 25, who made his debut in the soapie this week as Priya's gay cousin, Pradashan, described the wedding scene as fantastic. Fans will have to stay tuned to see if their wedding lasts.
