The long-awaited arrival of Swedish retailer H&M in Johannesburg has finally happened. On Wednesday night, the Fashion Weekly team were amongst the lucky guests to get a preview of the new H&M megastore in Sandton City, which is set to open to the public on Saturday, November 7 2015.

The big talking point of the evening? H&M's latest designer collaboration with French haute couture fashion house Balmain.

The Balmain for H&M collection was available for sale on the night of the launch (if you were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of it that is). Everyone from the media to VIPs and their moms swarmed around the rails grabbing items. One of the ladies we saw had lost a shoe in the process and another took off her earrings - ready for a fight, perhaps?

Johannesburg, we’ve heard that there is more Balmain fabulousness on its way for H&M's grand opening on Saturday and that pieces will be priced between R229 and R5,999. But you had better get there early...

No seriously, word on the street is that fans of the designer brand are already camping outside the store hoping to get their hands on a piece of this covetable collection.

Here are some of the best-dressed guests we spotted at H&M's star-studded launch:
