THE FILMMAKER MOM

Sara Blecher is an award-winning film director and mother of three. She is currently working on an Indian gangster film - based in Mayfair, Johannesburg - and a documentary on slain soccer player Senzo Meyiwa

What is the best advice you have received from your mother?

I've got a lot of great advice from my mom, but one of the most important things she taught me was to always pursue truth. You rarely ever arrive at it - but it's the pursuit that leads to the most interesting discoveries.

Mother's Day Wish List:

I literally wish to wake up on the 8th knowing that all three of my kids are home from all the around the world and then I wish to smell breakfast being cooked for me by them in the kitchen. Especially the coffee being made by my eight- year- old - who has been practising making coffee in anticipation.

THE ARTIST MOM

Award-winning artist and mother of one, Billie Zangewa is busy with an exhibition of silk works which she will be showing at 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair in New York City early next month

What is the most rewarding part of being a mother for you?

The experience of unconditional love between us. Looking at my son with love and getting the same look back. The sound of his laughter makes me so happy. Having this amazing human being in my life. All the cuddling and kissing. I could go on...

Mother's Day Wish List:

A massage at the Westcliff Four Seasons spa. My favourite breakfast at The Pudding Shop. A 2a scented candle. A delicious glass or two of Veuve Clicquot Rosé. Flowers from Atomic Orchid and a visit to Nirox Sculpture Park.

THE WRITER MOM

Kagiso Msimango is a life coach, the founder of The Goddess Academy and author of 'The Goddess Mojo Bootcamp'

How do you a strike a balance between your career and motherhood?

I don't. Thinking that I can strike a balance between my career and motherhood would imply that the two are separate. I am female. I cannot compartmentalise my life. The idea of a work-life balance is a very masculine concept. For the feminine everything is connected to everything else. At different times of my life I prioritise different things depending on circumstances and hope that in the end it all evens out in such a way that all the human beings involved who matter -including me - are happy.

Mother's Day Wish List:

More space for my books. I've started storing my books in boxes which saddens me greatly. I love seeing books as much as I love reading them. A motivating running buddy. I've had more stops and starts than I care to count. A good quality medium-sized leather handbag that is not emblazoned with logos. Call me crazy, but if I am going to spend a lot of money on a product I struggle to understand why I must also act as a mobile billboard. In my mind, the more prominent the branding, the cheaper the item should be.

THE STYLIST MOM

Jenny Andrew is the stylist of the Sandton City Gift Guide, her experience in the fashion industry keeps her abreast of the hottest trends

What do you cherish most about being a mother?

The amazing opportunity to watch my two daughters grow up to be such incredible people. They are such good company; charming, kind, loving, funny and capable. My elder daughter, Lucy, rows for South Africa and has just returned from Italy with two silver medals. With her sheer determination and dedication she has qualified for Rio. My younger daughter, Nancy, is unbelievably talented; she is a great cook and has a great eye for design, both fashion and décor.

Mother's Day Wish List:

I am in love with the chic C de Cartier handbag, a fashion classic. Metallic brogues to add a sheen to winter fashion. Blue and white plates from Woolworths would give a wonderful laid-back Ralph Lauren style to a lazy lunch. I'd adore a good coat, and Prada's take on a floral would look great with my red hair. I am addicted to scent and tend towards woody, smoky fragrances. The latest addition to the Dolce & Gabbana Velvet collection, Velvet Exotic Leather, is sensuous and sophisticated.
