It wasn't for her persistence in hairstyles that Anna Wintour was honoured by Queen Elizabeth II last week - although the British monarch could certainly relate.

Instead, it was for her services to fashion that the London-born, 67-year-old editor-in-chief of American Vogue was made Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire. It's an award befitting her unrivalled reputation as the most powerful and influential person in the industry.

The editor chose a pale pink Chanel haute couture double-breasted coat with a wide belt layered over a sheath dress, in keeping with her precisely defined personal style. Dark glasses, which Wintour is said to have removed shortly before entering the palace's ballroom, and nude Manolo Blahnik sandals offered signature finishing touches to a quintessential Wintour look.
