Enjoy succulent steaks at Milhaus Food and Wine Bar

Milhaus Food and Wine Bar, in the new Olympus Village Shopping Centre, has a buzzing atmosphere where you can enjoy an authentic steakhouse. This restaurant is the second in the chain (the first opened in Kyalami in 2014) and was developed by Stephan Niehaus and Brian Millard, who aim to create the best food and wine bar experience in Gauteng.

The 140-seater restaurant with open-plan kitchen and dining area has a modern look and a black and gold theme. Distinctive features such as the bar built from crates from a wine farm, a large, curvy wine rack made by Stephan, and the large gold logo on the wall make for a captivating first impression.

Milhaus serves huge portions of the finest cuts of free-range Kalahari beef, acorn-fed pork and Karoo lamb. The restaurant is known for speciality steaks served on salt rocks which cook at the table, and an extensive beer and wine selection.

There are a variety of meals on the menu including burgers, artisan pizzas, breakfast options, gourmet sandwiches, seafood and salads. For starters, I recommend the roasted bone marrow with capers and toast, or the semi-spicy Southern-style Buffalo wings which are deep-fried and served with a blue cheese sauce.

For mains, tuck into the 300g Picanha rump from the Kalahari, a Brazilian cut of meat with a large fatty side on which it gets cooked for supreme flavour and is served with vegetables and hand-cut, thrice-fried chips. The 500g dry-aged ribeye on the bone which is well-aged to create a soft texture and served on the bone for more flavour is impressive you and served with vegetables and chips.

Make sure your steak is accompanied by a glass of red wine such as Eikendal Charisma 2013, a Shiraz-dominant blend with flavours of black fruit and spice. Round off your meal with a dessert of malva pudding served with warm cardamom custard or try the melktert spring rolls. Call 012-991-2971.
