What are South Africa's top olive oils?

Discover the five healthy virgin olive oils chosen as winners in the latest Absa olive oil awards, all grown and pressed in the Cape The South African olive oil industry may be a mere sapling compared to its Mediterranean counterparts, but local producers are quickly gaining worldwide recognition. When buying local olive oil, look out for the SA Olive Seal, a green sticker on the bottle which guarantees origin and standards. Each year Absa sponsors a panel to select South Africa's top five olive oils. The current title holders are:De Boerin: Made from olives grown at the Kleinood wine farm near Stellenbosch, with only 2ha of olives. Pressing is contracted out but harvesting and bottling are done by hand.Kransfontein Coratina: Grown on the Kransfontein Estate in Stilbaai, which has 10000 trees. Pressing is done on site the day the olives are picked. Three different cultivars are made into single-variety oils.Andante: The olives are grown in Porterville, on the western foothills of the Winterhoek mountain range. The extra virgin oil is a medium-strength blend of varieties, the Intenso is made using Nocellara del Belice olives.Mulderbosch: The olives are grown on 5ha in the Polkadraai hills near Stellenbosch, where the cool climate contributes to the intense nutty flavour of the oil...
