Glamour rules the July

Glitz, glamour and bling coloured this year's edition of the Vodacom Durban July, won in style by The Conglomerate. A-listers, musicians, captains of industry and racing gurus led the pack yesterday, where the fashion set, as well as the rich and the famous, came up trumps in Durban.Glamour radiated through the massive crowd and the cash flowed at the 120th running of the July.Models strutted on the grassy trackside catwalk in their "leader of the pack"-themed outfits and artists kept the mink and manure set entertained.Mafikizolo, MiCasa, Black Coffee, K.O., Nasty C, Kid X, Aewon Wolf, Speedsta, Danger, Big Nuz, Mampintsha.ink, DJ Cndo, AKA and DJ Tira were among the many entertainers at the VIP marquees. TV personalities Bonang Matheba and Jeannie D looked stunning in Gert-Johan Coetzee designs.Matheba wore an off-the-shoulder, equestrian-inspired black and floral fitted dress, which showed off her small waist. Her co-host on SABC 3's TV show Afternoon Express, Jeannie D, was in a short, sheer, bright orange gladiator-inspired frock.Miss South Africa Ntandoyenkosi Kunene, who was hosted by Sibaya Casino and Entertainment World, turned heads in her black and gold Anel Botha dress, which had blue- and ruby-coloured jewel detailing.The outfit showed off Kunene's fantastic figure. Sunday Times Be Miss South Africa for a Day winner Khanyisa Malungana was alongside Kunene.The 20-year-old law student from Limpopo fulfilled a dream by spending the day with Kunene."I've always admired Miss South Africa. I've followed Ntandoyenkosi on Twitter and Instagram, and now I finally got to meet her and tell her how she has inspired me."She is passionate about education - and so am I. This whole experience is unreal because, apart from meeting Miss South Africa, I got to travel by plane for the first time and visit Durban for the first time," said Malungana.Malungana, who is the reigning Miss Giyani, said she wanted to enter the Miss South Africa pageant this year.Somizi Mhlongo showed up in a Zarth Designs catsuit made of PVC leather encrusted with rhinestones, inspired by Prince and Michael Jackson. Mhlongo even joked that he was "Prince Jackson" at the July.Khanyi Mbau, this year's queen of hearts, looked the part in a flowing gold and cream Antherline number.Mbau, who hosts lifestyle variety TV show The Weekend Edition on SABC 3, said a few inserts from the Durban July would feature on her gig.Top Billing's Lorna Maseko, Generations: The Legacy stars Thulisile Phongolo and Vuyo Dabula, Isidingo's Zakeeya Patel and Nolly Meje, Pearl Modiadie, the cast of Uzalo , Raphael Griffiths and MacDonald Ndou of Muvhango , Expresso's Ewan Strydom and High Rollers' Thapelo Mokoena were also among the guests.
