Check out Cape of Dance on Instagram and you'll find elegant images of dancers showing off their talents not in dance studios or theatres, but on city streets.

"Cape of Dance" is a solo project by professional photographer Nardus Engelbrecht, who won the photography category in the 2016 Business and Arts South Africa/National Arts Festival South African Arts Journalist of the Year awards.

Engelbrecht's subjects include students, actresses, stuntwomen and gym instructors, who all share a love of dance.

"I was inspired by the international Ballerina Project, but I wanted to photograph all dance genres," says Engelbrecht.

"Most dancers I photograph are trained and talented in more than one profession."

Through these pictures he hopes to raise awareness of dance in all its many guises and showcase the women and men who make this art form seem so effortless.

Most of the 123 photographs in the collection so far have been shot against scenic Cape Town backdrops or cityscapes, but Engelbrecht plans to connect with dancers from different parts of the Cape to reveal their grace as well as the beauty of their respective regions.
