When most people think of Nicki Minaj, feminism probably isn't the first thing that comes to mind.
But the multi-platinum and award-winning rap star not only identifies as a feminist, but often shares empowering messages for fellow women.
Here is some sage feminist advice from Ms Minaj, on everything from how to get more money to having better sex.
1. Do things your own way
"Women should do what makes them happiest and strongest. I wore my colourful wigs to meetings with millionaires and people I'd looked up to forever. I was a businesswoman closing humongous deals even when I had pink hair." – Glamour
2. Be fearless
"Women should be allowed to be as hardcore and sexual as we want, because men do it all the time." - V Magazine
3. Get your paper
"I just want women to always feel in control. Because, we're capable – we're so capable. It's one of the reasons that I have these women that I look up to – because they did not allow being a woman to make them feel like they should settle for less, financially. No, money doesn't mean everything. But it says a lot." – Dazed
"Women are uncomfortable talking about money. I know it's taboo to discuss it at work. Technically, you shouldn't, but you need to know what people around you are making. Otherwise, you're not going to know what you're worth... Do your research. I've always been pretty competitive in terms of my pay." – Cosmopolitan
4. Don't deny yourself pleasure
"I demand that I climax. I think women should demand that. I have a friend who's never had an orgasm in her life. In her life! That hurts my heart." – Cosmopolitan
5. Take charge of your destiny
"I love women who take control, who set standards, and who believe in themselves enough to lead the way in terms of their career. I've done that. When I win and when I lose, I take ownership of it, because I really am in charge of what I do." - V Magazine
6. Embrace your different sides
"I stand for girls wanting to be sexy and dance, but also having a strong sense of themselves. If you got a big ol' butt? Shake it! Who cares? That doesn't mean you shouldn't be graduating from college." – Rolling Stone
7. Be vulnerable - but not too vulnerable
"As women, we are vulnerable and emotional, and that's OK. I had to learn quickly that if you don't have a sense of self, you can be destroyed by a man. You can be destroyed by a relationship." – Cosmopolitan
8. Don't be so hard on yourself
"Give yourself some room to make a mistake and have fun. The less pressure I put on myself, the more I leave myself open for magical moments." – Glamour
Nicki Minaj will be performing in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban from March 17 to 22 2016.
