A mampara really never changes his spots. Just a week ago, South Africans were praising this chief induna of Faulty Towers for doing away with all that bubblegum American music and replacing it with 90% local content.

But then all the praise went to his head, causing him to order SABC radio stations to play a badly composed song about his greatness.

He has now gone a step further, decreeing that Mzansi is such a lovely place under No 1’s rule that he was no longer going to allow its good name to be tarnished by showing footage of protesters behaving badly.

It is just a matter of time before he changes the SABC slogan to that of George Orwell’s Big Brother: “War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength!”
