The University of South African (Unisa) on Wednesday congratulated “all the learners who wrote and passed the 2015 Grade 12 examinations"‚ but “specifically wants to applaud all the top achievers‚ especially in the science‚ mathematics and accounting subjects”.

“Unisa is of the view that the success of the Grade 12 learners is particularly commendable given the raised standard of the question papers in 2015 as confirmed by both the national quality assurance body‚ Umalusi‚ and the Minister of Basic Education‚ the Honourable Angie Motshekga‚” a statement said.

“We also commiserate with all the learners who were unsuccessful in these examinations and urge them to explore the many other opportunities available for them to acquire an education‚ including the various matric finishing schools and Technical‚ Vocational Education and Training colleges spread throughout the country‚” said vice-chancellor Professor Mandla Makhanya.

“We are also of the firm belief that a national discourse aimed at analysing and finding the best and lasting solution to the country’s educational challenges remains critical ‚ especially in the light of the challenges outlined by both Umalusi and the minister.”
