Beaufort West mayor Truman Prince has been ordered to publicly apologise after he was accused of bringing the ANC into disrepute.

BDLive reported that after pleading guilty this week, Prince was ordered by the disciplinary committee to apologise for sending out the letter to the company. In the letter he asked that contracts be awarded to contractors "sympathetic to and having a relationship with the ANC".

He was also ordered to pay a fine of R10,000 and withdraw the letter.

In addition to the letter, Prince is also faced with allegations he assaulted a female traffic officer. ANC Central Karoo Secretary, Windy Plaatjies told BDLive the disciplinary committee did not deal with the assault allegations.

In 2005, the ANC suspended Prince as a member and municipal manager when he was caught on camera allegedly soliciting sex from teenage girls. He was cleared and reinstated.

Prince told the Sunday Times last week that  he believed the party was plotting to oust him and others - including Western Cape leader Marius Fransman - from their positions.
