Unflattering passport photos are so common that, basically, everybody's got one.

But a new app from a US passport-expediting company called It'sEasy is about to fix all that.

The company already has an app that allows American passport applicants to print out all the necessary forms . Now it's adding a selfie-taking component that people all over the world could use. If they get it right, it will mean goodbye to those dodgy pics taken in a sweltering caravan next to the Home Affairs office in Randburg.

According to CNN Traveller, It'sEasy CEO David Alwadish, wanted to automate as many pieces of the travel puzzle as possible.

Users get a grid so they can make sure their head is in the right place for cropping the photo. They can then upload a few options and get feedback before choosing which picture to use.

Once you take the picture, the app takes you to another page that compares your photo to some others so you can see if it might work. You can also tap on each photo for explanations, such as "Background is too dark" for a rejected picture.

Bring it on. This way we might get pictures we actually like.
