For Europe's cheapest holidays... go east

If you're determined to travel this year despite the plummeting rand, take heart. Even the Brits are feeling the pinch.So as they too seek more affordable ways to get away, the British Post Office has compiled a list of Europe's 10 cheapest spots for a city break - and eight of them are in Eastern Europe.The annual City Costs Barometer ranks 35 of the continent's short-break hotspots on the price of a two-night stay in three-star accommodation plus the associated costs of a trip, including food, drink and sightseeing.The Telegraph reports that Warsaw, Poland, included in the survey for the first time this year, took the top spot with a weekend costing £113.22 (about R2,450). Vilnius, Lithuania's capital, came second at £114.93 (R2,480), while Budapest in Hungary was third at £122.99 (R2,660).Lisbon and Athens were the only Western European cities to rank, coming in sixth (£134.75) and 10th (£148.92) respectively.Stockholm was the most expensive, with a weekend break costing £325.44 (R7,030).The top 10 cheapest European city breaks:1.
